Coming down the backstretch on the final lap (202), Kevin Harvick pushed his Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet for all it was worth. Entering Turn three, Harvick had his sights set on the leader. Exiting Turn four, it was a drag race to the finish. With cars wrecking behind him Harvick passed the leader on the high side to win the Daytona 500 by 0.02 seconds.
